What is ScienceShell?

YURI, a space biotech company in Germany, has developed fully automated micro-labs with the size of a wallet and launch them on behalf of scientists around the world to the ISS, on orbital and suborbital spacecraft, on parabolic flights, and on drop towers.

YURI’s flight-proven hardware, SCIENCESHELLS, consists of experiment containers (OUTER SHELLS) and specific experiment inserts (INNER SHELLS). YURI provides you with ground models for testing and flight models that will be launched to space.

Suitable for a range of cell culturing experiments : ScienceShells and More

Especially, TYPE-IV is a frequently used ScienceShell that has been flown to the ISS multiple times, conducting a range of cell culturing experiments involving cancer, immune, and stem cells.

YURI has provided a variety of ScienceShells based on your needs:
- TYPE-V and TYPE-IV for Active Cell Culturing in Microgravity
- 2x2-Chamber, 4-Chamber and 8-Chamber; they are like a Petri Dish for Microgravity Research
- Mini Aquarium: an Aquatic System for Microgravity Research
- Greenhouse for Growth of Higher Plants

Additionally, YURI has the space incubator, called ScienceTaxi, under development, which is going to be launched in 2024. In ScienceTaxi, 38 ScienceShells can be operated automatically; 16 ScienceShells are placed on the inner centrifuge, which can simulate the Earth, Mars, and Moon gravities. The remaining 22 are operated in uG environments.

Random Positioning Machine (RPM) ©Yuri GmbH

Random Positioning Machine (RPM) and CLINOSTAT are the microgravity simulators on Earth. While RPM is a proven asset and valued by more than 60 research groups around the globe, including NASA and ESA, CLINOSTAT is an easy-to-use device for 24/7 microgravity research in your lab as well.

By providing the necessary containers designed for different applications, YURI will take your research to the ISS or any other orbital space craft. With YURI as your single point of contact, again, YURI gets you to space simpler, faster and more affordable.
